Surgery is an invasive procedure; please ensure you have asked your surgeon any questions you have. Below are a number of other things to think about before your surgery:
- You will need to ensure you take to the hospital any medications you take, any scans you may have had and also an overnight bag if you are being admitted overnight.
- You will be asked to sign a consent form indicating that you fully informed about the operation. Make sure you are fully informed and have answered any questions that you have.
- Hospital admission forms will need to be completed. These are to be returned to the hospital before your admission date.
- Remember to arrange for someone to drop you off and pick you up from the hospital. You will not be able to drive for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
- If you take Aspirin, Warfarin or any other anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications, you may need to stop taking them before your procedure. Discuss this with your specialist.
- Inform your surgeon about any medical conditions you suffer from.
- If you smoke, you should stop or cut down to reduce your surgery risks and improve your recovery.
- If you live alone, try and arrange for a friend or family member to stay with you for at least the first 24 hours after your procedure.
